Doyle Boston Sailmakers

Doyle Boston Sails is a full-service sailmaker, providing new sails, on-site service and repair for both performance racers and cruisers. We make sails for the local area as well as all over North America. We supply canvas, marine hardware, and other related accessories to cater to all of our customers’ sailing needs.

Job description
We are looking for an experienced sailmaker who will be working as part of our sailmaking team to fabricate, assemble and service sails using specialized materials and machines. The sailmaker should also have experience in manufacturing marine canvas and consulting on related hardware.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Read and interpret a specification sheet for the sail, containing all the fittings,
measurement details, materials and descriptions of the various production steps to
complete work on the sail.
● Layout, measure and cutting sail to exact specifications.
● Assemble and attach panels, parts, pieces, batten pockets, protective patches, reinforcements, sail hardware, leech and foot lines, ropes, sail numbers and logos
● Measure, design, and service, marine canvas
● Use judgment and experience to ensure all parts of the sail meet design specifications.
● Use scissors, power cutters, dies, etc. to cut materials parts and pieces
● Use and maintain industrial sewing machines to sew various parts of the sail.
● Complete hand stitching where needed.
● Train other sailmakers as needed and use expertise to verify proper construction of sail.
● Regular attendance and/or physical presence is required at the worksite.
● Perform related duties or responsibilities, as assigned or requested.

Qualification Requirements:
● 5 or more years of experience in sailmaking, servicing of sails or upholstery
● Completed highschool education
● Must be able to speak Intermediate English
● Good communication skills
● Capable of crawling on knees for extended periods of time
● Able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
● Good hand-eye coordination and an eye for detail
● Ability to read various measuring devices and interpret drawings and specifications with good understanding of mathematics

Terms of Employment
● Permanent Full-time
● Monday to Friday
● 8 hours per day
● Wage 26/hr
● Work Location – Doyle Boston Sail Loft – Point Edward, Ontario

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
